Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Mike Boone on July 6, 2011:

My sincere and heartfelt condolences to the family of Don Barlow. I had the privilege of working for Mr. Barlow as an administrative officer when he reorganized the Field Operations Division back in 1990. I fondly recall working closely with him as we along with his regional managers provided leadership for the revenue field offices throughout the state. I have many great memories of our travels to the field offices. He and I would do what we called our "western swing" where we would visit offices in Hickory, Charlotte, and Asheville over a period of three days. I remember one time in particular when we drove from Charlotte to Asheville via a route through South Carolina. He meticulously planned our route and we enjoyed the breathtaking scenery as we made the trip. I can still hear his great laugh when he got tickled about something. I gained so much from the time that I worked with him. I will always cherish the memories that I have of him and the outstanding leadership that he provided for our division and the Department of Revenue. Mr. Barlow was a wonderful mentor and a great man who had a profound effect on my career at the Department of Revenue. I am deeply saddened to hear about his passing.
