Gene Wentworth and I were with Gerry in Saigon the weekend before he was killed. We had a US civilian friend that had a large home and pool in Saigon near the old Mac-V headquarters. We were there with several other Army types, having a few drinks, a throw together dinner and some great companionship. Gerry was his usual vibrant, low-keyed but interesting self. He loved his work; admired the RVN he worked with, and was dedicated to his mission. I didn't know Gerry well as Cadet, but we did get together several times in Saigon. What can I say about Gerry ... a really great guy who died way too soon, but who died doing what he wanted to do. |
