Be Thou At Peace

| Bob had a few SAC B-47 TDY tours in UK and on one occasion he came to visit us at Lakenheath Air Base. I was fortunate enough to "work a deal" and give him a ride in the back seat of an F-100. We flew a two-ship low level training mission to a bombing range in France and generally had a good time doing things he really missed; gunnery, a little close formation, being upside down, and some air to air maneuvering. I know he enjoyed the experience because he reminded me of it every time we got together at any reunion. Over time I also grew to appreciate his genuine concern for humanity. I know he was a tough competitor and I will miss his friendly joshing at our reunions. Be thou at peace. |
