About one mile east of Freedom, ME, is the intersection of Routes 137 and 220. Approximately one mile south of this intersection, on Rte. 220 toward the town of Liberty, is the memorial forest. Part of the forest is in the town of Knox, and part of it is in Montville. There are two signs to the east of Rte. 220 announcing the memorial. One sign is in Knox; the other is in Montville. In addition to indicating that the tract is the Lieutenant Clair Hall Thurston Jr. Memorial Forest, the following information appears on the signs:

New England Forestry Foundation
85 Newbury Street
Boston, MA 02116
Tel: 617-437-1441

There is a Thurston family plot in Freedom at Pleasant Hill Cemetery on which the family marker indicates Clair's parents military service as reported in the links you provided. It lists his father's date of death and says he is interred at West Point. His mother's death is not reported thereon. Beside the marker is a plaque honoring Clair and indicating that he is also interred at West Point.
