Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Roy Jones on February 28, 2012:

As the rest of our class, I am deeply saddened to hear of John's passing. His efforts in producing the "Ward Book" have done more to keep our class knitted together than anything else any of us has or could have done. When a classmate passes and I hear of it, I read what is contained in John's book on him and reflect on his life. And, as I read John's last entry of 2 years back, and reflect on him and his and Gae's five children and three grandchildren, it reminds me what a special person he was.

I got to know him more than some in "that other regiment" (I was in second regiment :)) while on AOT in 1962 in Germany. We played bridge quite a bit...John taught the game to me . . . and although he was a good instructor, I don't believe I ever won against him!!!

I agree with Bill in his posting yesterday about honoring John for his contribution to our class at the next reunion and before. And, I extend my heartfelt condolences to Gae, John, Elizabeth, Jim, Joe, Margaret, "Mad Scientist" Jameson, "bundle of joy" Loralei, "rocket arm" Jay, all of whom I know about because of John's great gift to our Class . . . the Ward Book.

I have shown your book to my own sons with great pride for what it means. We all miss you greatly, John. Our hearts are with you and your loved ones. Be Thou at Peace. Roy
