Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Joe Chronley on December 18, 2003:

To Daniel and to all of John's internet friends,

I have known John for 20 years and have yet to meet his equal. I believe that everyone on John's email list already knows what a fine man he was (is}, but I feel compelled to share a few words. John spent his life blessing those around him, and I for one am going to miss him deeply. He is on the other side, and although I have a thousand things I wish I had said and done, peace comes to me in knowing there will come a time when such things can be reconciled.

He inspired me, and changed the course of my life for the better. Not too many people have such a positive impact on so many people. I remember a time when John had a house full of kids, and I didn't think he had two nickles to rub together, but John went out and bought a car for a single mother of three teenage boys, so she could get to work and night school. She wasn't family, in fact I don't think he knew her for all that long, he just followed his heart and trusted the Lord. It was this kind of faith that was the hallmark of John's life to me - never knowing what tomorrow would
bring but trusting that God knew ... and that was enough.

Dan, your father was more than a friend to me, and I want you to know I consider him to have been the finest of men among us. My heart yearns to follow his example and live life led by Godly principles, not by "good intentions" and the cares of this world. It pains me to miss the funeral Friday - too quick for me to rearrange the many obligations that chain me down. I offer all my love to you, you brother and sisters, and your precious mother Nancy. May God bless you all richly and guide you as you seek to find a new compass to measure the course of your future by.

Warmest Regards,

Joe Chronley
