Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Michael J Vopatek on May 5, 2009:

Bob and I were high school classmates. He and I competed for "x's" in Mr. Wellons' algebra and geometry classes. Every time we correctly solved the problem of the day, we received an "x" by our name. I recall Bob was the "go-to" person to determine if we correctly did the assigned problem. At the end of the semester, Mr. Wellons drew lines on the graph paper with our names so we knew who received an A or B or C. It was great training for Bob and me because each of went on to West Point where we were tested, everyday, in every subject.

He also was the sports editor for our yearbook. He was a member of the Varsity Club having earned his letter in cross-country running.

Everything I heard about Bob while he was a West Point lead me to conclude that he still was the "go-to" person whenever there was a question about math or science. He coached several of his classmates who were struggling with the academic load.

He always was a team player who was there to help.
