Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Bruce Carlson on September 7, 2012:

I worked for Gerald Brown in Vietnam in 1970. He was the Assistant Division Engineer of the 8TH Engineer Battalion, First Calvary Division and a Major at the time. I was his clerk typist at Division Headquarters in Phouc Vinh, Vietnam. He briefed the General each day on on the 8TH Engineer operations in the Fishhook region during the Cambodian campaign. I admired him because of his superior intellect and the respect with which he treated his subordinates. He wrote a letter to my parents, which I still have, that relieved their apprehension of my being in Vietnam. I felt he was a great officer and leader of men. Before he left Vietnam, he said to me that one day he would be a General. I am very glad to know he achieved his objective. He made a great contribution to our country.
