Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Tom Faulds on August 13, 1999:

Dear Tom,

Both you and I having been in G-1 no doubt have many fond memories of Cliff, but in thinking back, I believe one of Cliff's most endearing qualities was his selflessness. As a Plebe, Cliff quickly asserted himself as one who cheerfully lent a hand, always with a smile on his face. Many timss he took time to help others with our Plebe duties, whether it be delivering newspapers to upperclassmen, gathering laundry bags, or running an errand, often at the expense of his own precious "free" time, or assisting another with an academic problem.

As upperclassmen, he fell naturally into the role of "confidante,"
as others sought his counsel.

I can't think of anyone in our class I liked more than Cliff. It was more than his genuinely kind nature; it also dealt with the ease he so readily assumed a leadership role. While some of us may have sought or at least desired recognition as a leader, for Cliff it was understood, by all, that it was his for the taking.
