Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Jim Muir on August 13, 1999:

When we were in Beast Barracks, Cliff and I were in the same company. I had never in my life been anywhere close to South Carolina, so, in quiet moments, we would talk about where we were from. Cliff said he was from Clinddon, South Carolina in a way
that I had a hard time understanding. So I asked him to spell it. When he spelled Clinton, I pronounced Clinton. He corrected me saying "no, it is Clinddon." I had a great time with that the rest of our time at WooPoo, always making fun of Cliff's accent.

He was a great friend and I admired him so much as a cadet because
he was a great cadet and I was only trying to make Firstie weekends. I retired from the Army in Columbia, SC and now live in Charleston. After all these years, I now know that Cliff was pronouncing his hometown properly!

Please pass my fondest regards to Cliff's family.
