Be Thou At Peace

Posted by jack darrow on August 12, 2008:

Gary and I did not hang-out together as cadets. I was deposited in the comfort of D-1's "Apache Pass", and Gary in the "Deuce", land of beer coolers outside the rear windows. I can't blame him for not dropping by.

We did hook-up at the Artillery Advanced Course in '69 where, together with Denny Seiler and Bob McCoy, we made sure there were enough open seats in the classrooms to accomodate disciplined students. Many afternoons I would admire Gary's Arnold-Palmer-like swing, and his fairway-irons that recouped whatever was lost from the tee. I can still hear his shy chuckle when he made us laugh.

Those were fun moments, that are now permanent memories. You did well Gary, and made a lot of us very happy for having shared some time with you. jack
