Gary Jack Walk

West Point, 1964

Be Thou At Peace

Posted by John Tate on August 12, 2008:

Together with Charlie Miller, Gary and I traveled from San Antonio to USMA as New Cadets in July 1960. Gary and I were high school classmates at Alamo Heights High School in San Antonio, Texas, and were teammates on both the football and track teams, but Gary was the true track star in our class. I remember watching him work out with Dave Sims of Duke, then one of the top sprinters in the world, and Gary gave him a run for his money each time. Unfortunately, after graduation our paths rarely crossed again, even though we both returned to our Texas roots. On the happy side, my memories are of the young and strong-willed Gary of our youth. Together with his many high school friends still in the area, I will pay my respects at his funeral tomorrow and represent our USMA Class of 1964 with other Classmates I expect to see there. God Bless You, Gary....you will be missed, but remembered fondly....John
