Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Larry J. Milstid on July 26, 2011:

I served in Vietnam from 5/1/66 to 8/1/67. Lt. Gantsoudes became our company commander sometime towards the end of 66. I drove for him on many occasions. It was during this time that he became somewhat of a mentor for me, and provided the encouragement that a poor boy from the south needed to further my education upon discharge. This I did, subsequently earning my Bachelor's and Master's degrees. I managed to visit then Captain Gantsoudes while he was stationed at Fort Gorden, Ga. We corresponded via mail while I was in college and then drifted apart in pursuit of our respective careers. It has only been recently that I made a search for him and to my absolute dismay and sorrow discovered his passing. Captain Gantsoudes (as I shall always remember him as such) was a Godsend for me. He was a very intelligent, disciplined, caring man that made a huge difference in my life. I am sure that he touched others as he did me. May God bestow all of his blessing upon him.
