Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Frank Lambert on November 17, 2005:

Hank,
This is long overdue & I guess I can only say, "no excuse sir!"

There are two times we were together that were crazy & sobering. The first was after a Founder's Day at The Presidio in San Francisco. I have no idea what year it was, but it included Leyerzaph, Mashburn, myself & maybe a couple more. Anyway, we were going out on the town after the dinner & when trying to decide who would drive, you volunteered. Well, I can't tell you how that whole concept of you driving a van in a wheelchair scared the beegeebies (sp?) out of us. We were shocked when you perfectly parallel parked the van outside a bar on Union Street. Then we went inside & you led us to a great night of fun & comraderie.

The other experience was sobering. Mashburn picked me up to drive three hours to meet Davis at your graveside so we could pay our class respects to you. We said the Cadet Prayer & read your "bio" from our yearbook. I did not expect this to be the emotional experience it became for me. To remember you at that moment was a special time in my life and I will, forever, thank Frank Mashburn for taking me with him.

You were a tough guy Hank and we all respect you for the way you handled your disability and made your life really special for everyone.

God speed! Rest thous at peace.

Frank
