Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Bob Hartman on July 13, 2012:

I've never told this story, but will now. I was a new Commo E-4 to the Wolfhounds in Vietnam. It was the first day I ever was sent out to the Jungle with HHC 2/27th Wolfhounds, after arrival we all dug in. I was told that I should dig a large Fox hole so other HHC personnel could use too. Well, I dug and dug, as I kept digging an officer would come by and say "dig more". Anxious to prove my worth I kept digging. Well, that foxhole was more like a 10'x 10' gulley. Now seeing the craziness of it all, I stopped digging. I later found out it was Capt. Elson who enticed me to dig that fox hole. He later apologised and said he couldn't believe I was that gung ho to prove my worth. It was our private joke.

Like the ripples in a pond, the work of one man can spread out and touch the lives of many others. God touched you to rest, to fight no more, Stand down Delta 6. Rest Delta 6, Rest.

Wolfhound forever,
Bob Hartman
