Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Bob Magruder on October 8, 2008:

Angie and I lost a dear friend in Dave Binney. We never lost contact over the years, always knew where he was and what he was doing. Watched him move up the FBI ladder to the top and went directly to his home when he was announced as the Deputy Director of the FBI and to a FBI celebration later at the Willard when he retired. We went through the good times and the bad. Watched both boys get married, watched a messy divorce and a wonderful marriage to Carolyn. Dave was blessed to have the time he did with Carolyn. In fact he would admit he was blessed to even have the opportunity to be with her.

Dave was blessed to have not suffered in death, to have a loving wife by his side, and to having two very successful sons and families to carry on the Binney name. When you are one of 12 brothers and sisters it is not hard to do. Had a great visit to his home as a plebe and we took dates and sat on blankets along the Charles River listening to the Boston Pops with Arthur Fiedler conducting. And later we would spend a week with the Binneys in Maine at their summer home and always with other roommates and classmates.

I was jealous of the amount of travel and trips to everywhere in the world that Dave and Carolyn took. Now we can rejoice that they lived life to the fullest while they could. Now I regret that I am not doing the same with Angie. I hope all in the class will note this and do their best to slow down if still working and start living life a day at a time.

Was pleased when he started joining the class golf and ski trips, even though they had a timeshare at Park City for their family gatherings. He loved his classmates and old roommates. We will miss the old Magruder stories of plebe year, but not as much as we will miss having Dave around.

God Bless Dave Binney, your true and faithful servant. Lift up his family during this time. Dave, WE know where you are.
