Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Kasia Aguirre (Granddaughter) on August 10, 2020:

Grandpa Vuk had always been a lively figure to me. He was known for being quick to tell a joke, and he would always occupy himself with something; whether it be going out to watch a movie on saturdays, barbecuing his favorite cuts of meat for family dinners, catching up on the news, or even just taking time to himself to think about life and the world around him.

Grandpa also had a great passion for learning, and always encouraged his granddaughters to value diligence and education. He would help us with homework, tell us stories about his many travels and his career as an engineer, and teach us little life lessons every time we would visit.

Greatest of all, Grandpa taught us resilience. When I felt discouraged, he would always tell me that patience, practice, and persistence were the keys to success. He was always a fighter! Even when his condition limited his physical abilities, he would still make great efforts to let his family know that he was still with us in mind and in spirit.

I miss you every day, Grandpa. Thank you for being one of the best teachers I have had and for being such a wonderful grandfather.
