Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Ted "teddy" Rodosovich aka64 RODO on January 12, 2015:

I knew Pete quite well back in the West Point days. I left the academy in 1962 for the University of Cincinnati. Pete & I were corps squad (intercollegeiate) footballers. I was shocked to hear of his death. I was also a Merrill Lyncher for 15 yrs (1974-89) and we had occasional conversations. It's hard to cram all that Pete was into one person - tall, outgoing, smart, very much the leader. Also, during my Merrill yrs (some 30 yrs ago) I had a client (another U of Cincy grad), Ed Steigerwald, whose son dated one of Pete's daughters. Ed was very much in the same mold as Pete. I thought at the time, "Now there would be a royal match if ever there was one." I will miss Pete.

I end with a favorite poem of mine for sad occasions such as this, The Hopi Prayer.

Hopi Prayer
-author unknown
Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am the thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glint in the snow.
I am the sunlight on the ripened grain.
I am the autumn's gentle rain.
When you awaken in the morning hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush.
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there,
I did not die.
