Be Thou At Peace

Hey, Tom! This was Monday, when we had a foot of new snow here on the Blue Ridge, and no wind. It was a fairyland of feather duster branches and all quiet but for the creak of sagging limbs.

Every time I ski, I remember our times together. We just returned from a family ski trip out to Utah, and I came back to a VA appointment and was asked if I had had any recent falling incidents. I told him I had fallen down Widowmaker, then had to explain it was a black diamond run at Park City. Ha!

Well, we ARE pushing seventy now, at least I am! You are eternally young, as I really believe I still am.. until I see a photo of recent vintage! Who IS that old geezer!?

The class will gather at West Point for our 45th reunion this fall, and I'll check to see that your tombstone is dressed right and vertical. Your niece and nephew have dropped by to say hello.

Don't know if I ever told you, but I was back at the Ranger Dept as a team chief after Viet Nam. One of my last duties was out at Victory Pond, playing the 'clown' on the log walk. I cartwheeled off the rope to the tab, and dropped into the pond.. thinking of you, and your separated shoulder! Took me awhile to surface..

Sam and I drove across the bridge where you died, coming back from the ski trip. They have better barriers there now...

Miss you, buddy..

Jack
