Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Jay Vaughn on August 16, 2007:

Doug was my H-1 first class roommate. During graduation leave, we spent time together in Oregon before going our separate ways through Airborne and Ranger schools. We were assigned to different units heading for Vietnam where Doug the warrior died leading his rifle platoon.

As a cadet, Doug was academically gifted and an amazing athlete with a never quit attitude. He excelled at the 440 yard hurdles, one of the most exhausting of all track events. I now live near where Doug grew up in Bisbee, Arizona and have visited with people who knew him them and admired him greatly. They were as devastated as his academy classmates to learn of his death in combat and miss him yet.

Doug leaves a powerful legacy and example of how to live life to the fullest.
