The Bill Zadel that I watched on Saturdays was a fierce and extremely accomplished athlete. The Bill Zadel that I knew as a classmate for four years at school always met me with a smile and as a friend. I never shared the practice or game fields with him but it never seemed to matter to him. There seemed a gentleness about him that deepened my respect for the man. After graduation I had too few opportunities to share time with him but each time we were together I grew in respect and admiration for him. I am shocked and deeply saddened. I sincerely hope that his family and friends take solace and even some measure of joy in knowing the great love and respect that so many of us had for Bill. He lives on in the Long Gray Line and in our hearts. |
