Be Thou At Peace

Posted by John D. Talbott on June 5, 2016:

My memories of Colonel Gilchrist are distant and few, but strong nonetheless.

As a boy, Mal occasionally came up from Virginia to stay with his relatives -- my next-door neighbors -- the wonderful Duncan family, in Stamford, Connecticut. His extended family of Stantons, Picketts, Duncans, and Gilchrists were treasured additions to our neighborhood when they visited.

I remember what a squared-away, good-hearted, fun-loving dude he was as an early teenager, and that he was looking forward to a military career even then.

I'm sure Colonel Gilchrist served his country well and gallantly, and a brief glance at the medals he earned proves that. I would be proud if my own military service measured up half as well to his.

May God bless you and keep you, sir.
