Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Doug Gibson on January 31, 2010:

Karl and I were roommates during cow year and lived in the 49th Div. Probably the thing I remember the most about Karl was his struggle to be able to do the number of sit-ups (and now I don't remember that number!!! I guess something abot old age!!!) to pass the PT test. I can remember doing more sit-ups with him to get him to pass than I thought I would ever have to do in my life!!! But he made it, and everytime I saw him over the years, he would always remind me that I was the reason he graduated (a little far-fetched but it made me feel good!!)

I also remember with great fondness the last time I saw Karl. It was the summer of 2006, and I was in Dayton for my niece's wedding, and my brother took me over to visit. Karl was in great spirits and it was so much fun to be able to reminisce about the past. You could certainly see the love that Karl felt for West Point by all the momentos he had around his home.

Karl, God Bless You and Keep you. We will all miss you, but I know you are in a better place. Rest in peace.
