Many Filipino West Pointers enter the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) before getting an appointment to USMA. Donald was the first American to do just that. I knew he had many problems adjusting to life in PMA, similar to what I had experienced while adjusting to the West Point atmosphere. I used to check up on him from time to time during his plebe year, and was pleased to learn that he had few difficulties in facing the challenges at West Point.
