Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Preston Hughes on September 24, 2008:

Bryant was my Beast Barracks roommate, along with Labe Jackson. I remember how naive and unprepared for the simplest things military I was in that summer of 1961. But Bryant knew how to make hospital corners on beds, how to spit shine shoes, how to hide candy bars up in the chimney. He helped Labe and me to make it through Beast Barracks.

Bryant and I didn't see much of each other after Beast, and we were not in the same company during any of our four years there. But I maintained a great respect and appreciation for his friendship and for his unstinting help and encouragement for this bumbling plebe during those two months--certainly some of the most challenging in my life. Many thanks and well done, Bryant. My sincere condolences to the family.
