I knew Ed from my high school days. Kingston HS PA was a big rival of my Shamokin HS, but he and I and Mark Scureman used to gather after our matches and talk story. That we all ended up at West Point was great. I have a newspaper clipping which has four of us, including Floyd Welker in the same high school match, all WP recruits. Ed and I were in the same weight class, but we could go up and down, so our weekly "elimination" matches were mostly to see who had to lose the most weight for the Saturday match. Most of those ended up 1-0 or 2-1 or tied, since we knew each other�s moves so well.. I think Coach Alitz used to flip a coin to assign us to a weight class. I have a photo of all of us, unfortunately this page will not "take" it. R.I.P. Ed, you were top notch! |
