I got to know Mike during our Plebe year in A-2. I recall him returning from football practice with a perpetually-open cut on the bridge of his nose where the helmet had been mashed down. And it never seemed to bother him. My most striking memory is of his unfailing good cheer. The little assaults that we all endured and that concerned us so greatly did not seem to bother Mike. He could laugh them off, and the rest of us learned to do the same...well, kinda. Mike was extraordinarily intelligent and dug deeply into matters that interested him. A remarkable intellect in a remarkable man. And finally, Mike was one of the most generous, kind-hearted persons I have ever met. We shall all miss him greatly. |
