Be Thou At Peace

Posted by George S. Gehringer on April 12, 2013:

Gene is an extraordinary man for many reasons; I want to mention just two which touched me most.

He loves fishing; he taught me "how" to fly fish. He was patient, excited and light-hearted as he showed me how to set the fly, how to cast, "it's just like Harry Potter's wand...it's all-in-the-wrist" and how to be patient. Gene had his favorite fishin'-spots; and we went there a couple of times: mostly to just talk about things-in-general, and to reflect on his good life with Bev and "the kids."

Sue and I have especially appreciated the way in which Bev and Gene lived out their spirituality. As counselors within their church, they consoled and encouraged many couples and individuals...just as much by their actions as by their prayers and gentle interactions. I think that Gene genuinely understood "who" he was. His study of psychology and religion led him to a deep understanding of "spirituality." Bev and Gene always seem assured of their one-ness with each other and with God. There is neither past nor future; there is only "the now" in God's time: Gene knows that.
