| Although I knew Gene at West Point, our paths did not cross until he was a senior colonel (more than 25 years later). The first day I ran into him was in a hallway (E Ring) of the Pentagon. I was so happy to learn that Gene was a mere 50 yards away, working as the Executive to the DISC4 (senior signal officer). Every time I would need a boost in morale, it was off to Gene's office. He was never too busy, and I was never turned away. My reward was a 5 or 10 minute conversation and an improvement in my morale. How could one not respond to the twinkle in his eye and Gene's smile? Well done, my friend! |
