| I vividly recall meeting then Cpt Echols one time in a hanger at Fort Wainwright, AK as we were embarking for a flight to Fort Richardson to attend a Founder's Day event there. This must have been in March 1970 and I was then a 1LT in the 1/47th Inf Bn. Later that year, I was sadly part of a 171st Inf Bde memorial "Pass in Review" in honor of Jim and the two others who lost their lives in the Cessna 172. I also vividly recall the image of the three pairs of combat boots on a field table as we passed in review. Heartfelt remembrances to the Family. --Bill Ward, '69 |
