Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Mike Lormand on March 29, 2010:

We got to know one another as well as any enlisted man can with an Officer.
He cared for his platoon. His men, all 19/21 of us when he and I got there.
One of the first things he told me one night while we drank
coffee and were laid out at the base of some hill that we later were based on top of, was "West Point didn't get me ready for this".
He was short but carried his load well. He adapted quickly for a new man in country.

And seeing we had a Major from Quartermaster in HQ Company who was passed over and yet got his shot at leading men in combat. LT. Baily, had his hands full like the other platoon leaders.

He is the only officer I respected while in the Army. I wished my search for LT. Baily, had found him much sooner.

My prayers are with his family and I salute this officer and his Honor one last time.

RIP. LT. Baily, may the angles have lifted him quickly to his place in heaven.

173rd Airborne, E-Troop 17th CAV.
