Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Robert Catlin on May 16, 2013:

I was a 1st Regiment cadet at West Point, so I didn't get to know Frank until after graduation. I met Frank when we were in Ranger School together and I liked him instantly. Frank was a great guy and a natural leader. I still remember the morning runs at "zero dark thirty," when Frank would make us forget our misery by singing cadence. Frank couldn't sing and neither could I, but that didn't stop us. Frank sang, "Oh, Miss Lisa," and we'd respond with "Little Lisa Jane." Then Frank would sing one verse after another. Frank got us through many morning runs that way and I still think of the song on occasion when I'm jogging. I was devastated to learn of Frank's death in Vietnam, but he died like he lived--helping others.
