Be Thou At Peace

Posted by JOSEPH LAWLER OLSON on August 1, 2020:

Len was my friend and the best way to describe that friendship is this quotation from St. Thomas Aquinas:

"Friendship is the source of the greatest pleasures,
and without friends even the most agreeable pursuits
become tedious.

Our friendship really began at Ft Riley, Kansas after VietNam.
Len and I spent many happy times sharing our lives and enjoying the times we spent on dates with our wives, Elaine and Sharon. Our next time together was at West Point on the faculty and the beginning our bigger families with the arrival of kids. I was passed over for Major while there and Len was the guy who came to the quarters that morning and would not let me feel sorry for myself. Len could always get the best out of me. From West Point is time sharing families when we passed through the DC area and spent time with Len and Elaine.
They both helped our daughter get settled in DC when she was just starting her career. We had our last joyous time together
at the 50th Reunion last May. Len will always be a part of me.
