Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Rick Cantwell on January 12, 2022:

My first memories of West Point on 1 July 1971 was in meeting Howie in our New Cadet Company. He and Paula became an important part of my life that summer. My wife to be stayed with Paula on her many trips to West Point. Starman Howie was an incredible Man. He told me that first summer that he was headed to Railway Industry and true to form had a great Career there after his time in the Military. The First West Point Wedding I attended was for Howie and Paula and a great wedding it was. We then went to our first assignments and didn't link back until 1979 at Ft Lewis as he and Paula were heading to Korea. So strong was their marriage that Paula accompanied him on his "unaccompanied" Tour in Korea. They of course had a small place outside of Camp and he ran to and from work. He came back thru Ft Lewis on his way to Harvard MBA program after he left Korea. He rose quickly in the Railway Industry and took his skills globally to Russia thru UAE. We were proud to be invited to his retirement ceremony last year but was unable to attend due to the COVID challenges at the time. We enjoyed his visits to North Carolina and our trips to the NC Rail Museum and getting school by a leader in the Industry. We loved the pictures of his train tours especially the one in Alaska. Howie, you made such a major impact on our WP Class, our Military and our Nation. You will be surely missed! Until we meet again!!
