Be Thou At Peace

| Lou was a dear friend during our cadet days. We were roommates during "beast barracks" and he was a great help to us since he had already spent a year at the PMA where he learned the basic military skills that were so foreign to us "newbies." Lou spent some of his breaks at my home in PA since it wasn't possible to fly back to the PI. Always quiet and kind, I sensed there was also an internal fire in him that would steel his resolve to do the right thing no matter how difficult. He was a great artist and also had a sense of humor. As plebes we had three responses...Yes Sir, No Sir, Sir I Do Not Understand. Whenever Lou was stopped by an upperclassman and given a hard time he would repeat "Sir I Do Not Understand" until the person got frustrated and sent him off. He would come into the room with a big smile on his face and proudly say "it worked again!" God bless Lou. |
