Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Brian Buswell on July 7, 2001:

Ah, Lu-thor.
I remember what a straight arrow you were. I remember your clucking at Shrenk and me for getting an 8-8 tour for being just a tad late returning to our rooms after a rendezvous with our latest debutantes. I recall your surprise at seeing me in Germany, you with your butterbars and I with my Cavalry beret, in '78. Our last correspondence was in '98, and you told me about the reunion, and we exchanged information about the people that had taken early retirement (before graduation and after). You wrote about your family, and I suggested you bringing the family up to Vermont to go skiing sometime. I wish you had come.

Jones told me about your passing. I wouldn't have had the opportunity to contact him had it not been for your efforts. I read the comments, both good and bad, about the last reunion, and it reminded me of my hop manager West Point days of long ago, and how difficult it can be to coordinate so many strong-willed people. Well, you did it John, and your efforts will be remembered.

You were one of the good ones, John Luther.
