John and I did not become well acquainted until we were Beast Barracks Squad Leaders for the incoming Class of 1980 in July 1976. To say that John was "squared away" is indeed an understatement. He did the job with outstanding dedication and enviable method, and simultaneously John kept a wonderful sense of humor about it all. I was a better squad leader, and a better cadet, because of what I learned while observing John. If you discerned that I was copying certain of your approaches, John, you were right. Thanks for your friendship then, and for your example. --Joe Sullivan |
