Be Thou At Peace

Posted by John B. Bailey on March 24, 2019:

The year 1973, ROTC cadet John Luther taught me how to succeed in life. I was his Major and had poor grades yet somehow I managed to graduate from high school. All of our friends went to the Military Academy's except me. I lack motivation and struggled my entire life with school. Both parents were abusive and were alcoholics.
John took the time to help me study, to believe in myself and to be a leader. John knew about my homelife and always kept in touch offering me advise and encouragement.

I enlisted in the Army and served four years active and three years active reserve. I got out and went back to school enrolling in community college. Shortly after college, I applied and was accepted to the 98th San Diego Police Academy. I graduated with honors in 1980. I owe my success to John Luther. I was taught how not to quit by him.

Today, I have retired from the San Diego Police department with a pension and now work as a Senior Investigator for the Riverside District Attorney's office in the major crimes unit. I retire in a year with pension number two. John, I thank you for being there for me and helping me obtain the strength to be successful in my life. I could not have done it without you.

In appreciation I remain.
Love you brother!!
