Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Lee Jackson on August 11, 2004:

Jody, You were first among equals with that smile. The good you intended was undying. With your enthusiasm for the rebel cause you energized us to be better than we were. Our most distant memories of you take us back to Ft. Belvoir where your energy was already aimed at doing the harder right. Your infectious talent for mischief marked you among your peers at West Point. Someone to be counted on. Someone to cherish. With the separation of years, much of what we know about you comes from stories pieced together by those who knew you best. Those who knew of your victories and your private anguish.

The quiet sincerity of your smile as you greeted classmates last month leaves pause: Did you know the time was short? Would that we had known. Your departure leaves a void that cannot be filled, but you also leave memories that refresh the mind and the spirit. With your beloved brother, Kingsley, you now watch over Esprit de Corps continuing to do that which you always did so well...drive us to do and be better. Though now we grip hands through the shadows, nevertheless, we grip hands...and ever shall...until once again we see that smile.
