Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Veronica "Roni" Marsh Laird on March 16, 2015:

It was an honor to call Jody my friend. I was a very young "army-brat" living in Mannheim Germany when I first met Jody; my father served under his command. (early 80's) Capt. Fink and his wife were in need of a "sitter" for their two munchkins - I was soon part of their beautiful family. Not only did I love spending time at their house keeping Shawn and Dayna, they included me in family vacations....I loved them all so much. Although I moved away and only had contact for a short time - not a day has gone by that I haven't thought of Jody and his family. Jody was such a proud father and I remember at even a young age, Shawn having just as whitty of a personality...no doubt he was his father's son.

I've searched a few times always wondering what happened to the beautiful family I once thought of as my own; recently during a random search I found a eulogy for Jody.....to say I was saddened was an understatement. I know Jody touched many lives, it was just who he was. I know Jody was proud and honored to be the father of Shawn and Dayna, he made that well known. I know Jody will continue to live through his children. No doubt that Jody still brings many laughs at family dinners; during social gatherings of colleagues and friends - even just privately with some.

Shawn and Dayna, you are in my prayers. With my deepest and heartfelt condolences, I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your "daddy!"
