Be Thou At Peace
Posted by J Barton Williams on September 10, 2015:
It was on a distant morning The day that I arrived OFFICIAL was the label On the letter at my side
A man with a mission Walked through a barracks door To make of me a soldier And serve myself no more.
He said, "You'll do your Duty. You'll serve the others well." As his words fell upon me It was then that I could tell,
Duty was my master, My rising , setting sun. I'll be a man who will sacrifice. I am my Nation's son.
The servants are the one's that go Where no one has the nerve. They go when it's not easy Because they gave their word
When they leave they give no speeches About the things they're going to do. When they come home its hard to talk Of battles that they went through.
Their blood has fallen on the sands Of plains in distant lands. Their boots have always cleared the path Where others would not stand. When they leave the world prays for peace But, conflict never ends. Duty calls. The left foot falls And the mission begins again.
