I grew up four houses from Dick and his Family in North Brookfield, MA. Dick was very close to my Family .. two years ahead of me & my brothers best friend. We played soccer and were on Student Council together ... l served as our student council president as a sophomore while Dick was a senior class rep ... he showed enormous grace in helping those junior to him lead ... a trait (graceful leadership) that's been noted so many times. Dick & I are the only folks from our 'generation' to have joined our Army and stayed in uniform for 20 + years ... he went to West Point, I to OCS. Two guys from 'small town America' who both married our hometown sweethearts (both 'married up'), and who are both blessed to have served our country. Dick, though, is arguably the finest man of our generation to have come from North Brookfield, or our west-central Worcester County. A phenomenal athlete, a truly gifted leader, and simply a fine human being ... all who knew him respected him, most wanted to be like him, and all would follow him. May God welcome him home, bless & comfort those who love him, and inspire in those who never met him similar values & abilities! Scott St Cyr (COL, US Army, Retired)
