Be Thou At Peace

Posted by David G. Toy on October 9, 2001:

I was Billy's Squad Leader in the B Co GP Platoon 82nd Signal Bn Fort Bragg. He came to me as a 31m and wanted to do good. He was a great person and a good a soldier as I ever had. I had been runner-up Division SOM NOV, 1974 and he was wanted to do better. Well he won 82nd Abn Div SOM one month before he left for USMAPS. If he wasn't with me playing basketball or out playing tennis he was at my house eating pimento cheese and pork rinds and babysitting my daughter. Billy died in a Helicopter crash in Georgia. He was Armour Branch and a Helicopter Pilot flying with the rangers. He is buried in Shiloh National Military Park in Tennessee north of Iuka, Mississippi where he was raised. I miss him very much and was responsible for him going to USMA. I hope he is looking over my son Class of 2005. Rest in Peace
