Be Thou At Peace

Posted by BG Phil Volpe on January 26, 2007:

It is with sadness and tears that we bid farewell to Brian. Not only is Brian's death a tremendous loss from the leadership ranks of the AMEDD and Army, but a loss in each of us who call him a friend and colleague. I served with Brian at every rank: we jumped into Panama during Operation Just Cause with the Ranger BNs; we served in the 82nd together; we served in Special Operations; we were commanders in the 44th when he had the 274th FST and I had the 28th CSH; and we transfered the 18th MEDCOM/121st GH Colors in Korea in July, 2004. He set an exemplary example for me along the way and we shared many experiences in service together. Kind, considerate, bright, professional, calm under pressure, dedicated, honorable, compassionate and team player were the hallmarks of Brian's character and personality. Where most citizens consider their freedoms and liberties an entitlement, it is Americans like Brian, and those he so proudly served with, who exemplify the sacrifices made in order to gain and maintain the very freedoms and opportunities we enjoy each and every day. Brian will rest in peace because he remained true to his faith, his family and his Nation. May God bless Brian and his family --- and may God bless the United States of America by creating more citizens like Brian who are willing to serve for something greater than themselves. Brian will be greatly missed but never forgotten! - Phil Volpe
