Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Tom Westfall on February 1, 2007:

Brian was a close friend who my family and I will deeply miss. Patty loved Brian because he would read to my kids in our Lay-Z-Boy and keep me honest and humble with his candor and quick wit. Brian was the officer West Point aspired to graduate to lead America's finest. I will always remember Brian's zest for adventure. When he visited us in Brazil...Joe Duffey, Brian, and I decided to hang glide off a steep cliff in "crates" that were held together with tape and twine. To this day, I don't know how we ended up on that bus to Abilene, but we followed Brian off the ramp and managed to land without any broken bones. Brian wanted to see a Brazilian football match between Botafogo and Flamingo; the biggest soccer grudge match and rivalry in Rio de Janeiro. So off we went to Maracana Stadium where we found ourselves in the middle of 80,000 fans engaged in mortal combat. The papers called it the biggest soccer riot in Rio's history. Of course Brian talked the wives into going...Carol, Jane, and Patty still haven't recovered from that day...game highlights included the Rio police beating fans, banners going up in flames, fire hoses turned on the crowd, brawls, big guard dogs chasing kids who jumped the fence, people thrown off the second tier...and of course Brian, acting as if it were a Rockies baseball game. Nothing phased Brian, he was always cool and collected no matter how bad things got.

Think of the legacy Brian left us - a passion for life, family and friends, travel, the outdoors, and helping others. Brian Allgood lived life as it should be lived. He was a great father, son, brother, husband, friend, and patriot.

May God bless Brian Allgood, his family and friends, and the country he loved.
