Barry and I were high school buddies in Helena Montana. Barry was a great guy, liked by everyone. I can remember many funny stories about Barry, but one stands out. After graduation he decided to climb the 3 story high school building and asked me to help him. Donning camo clothing and face paint we timed the security guard's rounds. Once in the clear, we hauled our climbing gear to the roof and rapped down, writing notes to our teachers on the outside of upper story fixed glass windows. Of course we used washable soap. I've climbed many big mountains since then, but no adventure stands out as clearly as the short climb I made with Barry. To this day no one is quite certain how those notes were written so high up on the building. If you know anyone from Helena, please don't tell them. |
