Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Paul Werner on July 22, 2007:

Amy,

Barry Strope was my room mate when we were plebes in Company H-4 (Go Hogs!). At the time we were bunked up four to a room in the Lost 50s Division and let me tell you it could be a long Semester if you couldn't get along with your room mates. With Barry, it was just the opposite. He had a great personality and always had a joke or a smile (usually a smirk:-) and he could always be counted on when you needed him.

Since we were in the Lost 50s Division, we tended to be a closer knit group than those who were in the multi-story barracks. We spent many a weekend down at Ike Hall having a good time and a lot of laughs and many pitchers of brew. Barry's dry humor always cut me up. There was something about that devilish smirk that just kept you laughing.

I can also tell you that we spent many a weekend listening to music and one of his favorites (and mine) was the Little Feat album, "Waiting for Columbus". Just about any song on the album is great and we knew all the words.

I can only hope you follow in your father's footsteps, because he was one special person.

All the best,

Paul Werner
