Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Brian Stewart '83 G3 on March 15, 2005:

To Amy,

I knew your dad, Barry Strope, and you will be glad to know he was a great guy! I was not a truly close personal friend but I did spend a good deal of time with him in the Summer of 1980. That was our second summer at West Point. We lived it at a place called Camp Buckner.

We lived in the same barracks that summer and were assigned to the same squad. We shared a bunk bed, he had the top, I had the bottom. Your dad was a quiet guy but professional. You could count on him to do what he was supposed to do. He definitely knew how to slip in a joke just when no one was expecting it and when everyone needed it. He had a great sense of humor and always used it at the appropriate time. He used it the way a leader uses it. And yes, he was extremely good looking. Every girl noticed him and every guy was envious.

It was truly my pleasure to have known your dad, Barry Strope. I hope you grow up to be just like him.
