Rene and I were roomates 1st semester firstie year. He was the Platoon Leader and I was his Platoon Sergeant. We spent much time talking of life, dreams, and love. I think that he wanted nothing more than to be a loving husband and father, a disciplined servant Soldier, and a man who pleased our God. I have so many fond memories of my friend. He would have laid down his life for me as a friend. I remember his wedding and the excitement of the life he had ahead. I will never forget the letter he wrote me from a hospital after he was wounded from an ambush - he was always quick to make a joke of the harsh circumstances of life and make us both smile. He was fun to be around. It is truly my honor to have been known as Rene's friend. Well done my friend -- I look forward to the day that I see you there. |
