I was walking out of the Ft. Hood Officer's club the day that Charlie, Chris and Wayne died in the Chinook fire/crash. I saw Charlie sitting in the O'club Barber shop, waiting for a haircut. I remembered him from several classes we had together, but I didn't stop in to say hi, although it had been almost 2 years. I was in a hurry and figured that I would see him again as we were on the same post. I had forgotten his name. My memories of him at WestPoint were already fading when I walked on out of embarrassment, but the image of him sitting in that chair, waiting, is still razor sharp today, almost 13 years to the day. I never pass up an opportunity to say "Hi" any more, even if I've forgotten a name. |
